// about charged labs

We build modern tooling for the CMS that run the web.

Drupal and WordPress quietly power a huge share of the internet. Over the last decade the frontend world got fast, composable, and genuinely good to work in. CMS theming mostly stayed where it was. Charged Labs is built to close that gap.

01 / Why we exist

The friction was never yours. The tools just hadn’t moved.

After fifteen years building Drupal and WordPress sites, you stop blaming yourself for the friction.

Every convenience the JavaScript ecosystem takes for granted — a local environment that starts in seconds, a component library you actually want to reach for, deploys that don’t need a runbook — was missing or bolted on after the fact.

Charged Labs is the answer to that, built by someone who shipped in this ecosystem long enough to know exactly where it hurts. Not a rewrite of the CMS. A modern layer on top of the platforms that already run real sites for real organizations.

02 / What we believe

A short spec sheet of opinions, held firmly.

dx.modern = true

Classic CMS deserves modern DX.

The age of a platform says nothing about the experience of building on it. A mature, battle-tested CMS and a fast, modern workflow are not a tradeoff you should have to make.

stack.owned = you

You should own your stack.

No hosting lock-in, no proprietary runtime you can’t walk away from. Charged Cloud is a control plane: your compute, your data, your exit.

node.required = false

No Node tax.

Charged compiles Tailwind at runtime in PHP. Theming a site shouldn’t mean standing up a separate JavaScript build chain just to ship a utility class.

standards.first = true

Standards outlive frameworks.

Components are light-DOM web components, not logic trapped inside one framework’s lifecycle. They work in Twig, in blocks, and in whatever ships next.

theme.model = "base"

Build on a base, not a fork.

You inherit and override a real base theme. You don’t copy a starter kit and quietly inherit its bugs forever, with no clean path back to upstream.

funding.vc = null

Independent on purpose.

No venture capital, no growth-at-all-costs roadmap. Charged Labs answers to the developers who use it. That constraint is a feature.

03 / The lineup

Charged UIFree
